Natalia Leshchenko

Natalia Leshchenko is an expert on the social dissemination of ideas. As a Lord Dahrendorf Scholar at LSE, she is writing on the role of nationalism in postcommunist transformations. As a researcher with the Power Inquiry, Joseph Rowntree centenary project, she is investigating the ways to modernize democratic system and increase political participation in Britain. Altogether, she is interested in ideas aimed at mobilizing large numbers of people, from branding and advertising to political ideologies. Natalia also has expertise on civil society and management of non-profit organizations.

Natalia graduated cum laude in International Relations in Belarus, and came to Britain as a Soros/Chevening scholar on an MA programme at the University of Sussex, after which she commenced her PhD study at LSE. In 2003, she did an internship with the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

As far as hobbies go, Natalia enjoys walking around un/familiar cities, learning languages, driving, having guests at her home and traveling, often without a purpose. She chose to preserve her ignorance of tennis. Her non-professional ambitions are to learn motorbiking, read Victor Hugo in the original, and to go through a jungle.
